Our Impact
Sustainable Change
While our staple programming provides tools for physicians to navigate and mitigate burnout, more must be done to address burnout at the source. Research clearly identifies that physician burnout is largely a systemic issue and the NPWC is working with institutions across the state to create sustainable change.
The NPWC’s work in supporting physician wellbeing strengthens retention, improves access and quality of care, and helps secure a sustainable healthcare workforce.
Impact in Action
-
Nearly 40% of physicians report being reluctant to seek care due to concerns about the potential impact on their medical licensure (Mayo Clinic Proceedings).
With input from the NPWC, Nevada’s Patient Protection Commission has revised the NDOI-901 form to no longer include unnecessary invasive health questions—contributing to a culture of help-seeking in medicine. Additionally, the MD and DO Boards have made significant revisions and Nevada is now recognized by the Lorna Breen Foundation as a Wellbeing First Champions for Licensing state.
-
We facilitate a Leadership Working Group and a Medical Education Working Group that brings together leaders from major institutions across the state. The Leadership Working Group is making meaningful strides through the Joy in Medicine® Health System Recognition Program.
These working groups foster collaboration and growth that improves outcomes for physicians and patients alike.
-
This Mentorship Program supports medical students through open, supportive conversations with physician mentors—offering tools for personal wellbeing and working to break the culture of silence around wellbeing in medicine. Learn more in this Nevada Academy of Family Physicians feature on the program.
In 2025, we expanded the program to students at both UNLV and UNR medical schools, supporting 50 students with 30 physician mentors.
-
Statistics indicate that 80% of physicians would prefer to talk to a colleague when they are struggling and thus having a Peer Support program readily available for physicians is an integral tool for support. In collaboration with peer support expert, Dr. Shapiro, we have facilitated several peer support training sessions and are in the process of implementing a statewide Peer Support Line that matches practitioners with peer support outside of their place of employment.
-
Our inaugural 2025 summit opened with a keynote speaker sharing her story about the suicide of her physician husband, followed by a panel of experts representing psychology, medical regulation, physician families, and clinical practice. The event brings together stakeholders from across the field for a timely and important discussion.

A Net Promoter Score (NPS) is known as a gold standard customer service metric used to measure customer loyalty and satisfaction. Our NPS is far above average, with over 75% of respondents responding favorably to: “How likely are you to recommend the NPWC to a friend or colleague?”
“The transparency and sharing of the panel, speaker and the audience was the most I have ever seen in a public physician presentation.”
