Speaker Series: My Transformation from Doctor to Patient with MS

Event Date: Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. PST

Presenter: Lisa Doggett, MD, MPH, FAAFP

Location: Attend from your desktop, or phone via Zoom

There is no charge to participate in this session, but pre-registration is required.

At age 36, Dr. Lisa Doggett was trying (and failing) to balance her work as a family physician directing a community clinic for uninsured patients with raising two kids under five. Then she woke up dizzy. She had multiple sclerosis, a leading cause of neurologic disability in young adults.

Devastated, she thought her future had just been canceled. She didn't know if she would be able to work again or be an effective parent. But in the 14 years since, she has done both, despite relapses, roadblocks, and that nagging feeling that it's never "enough." Lisa will share passages from her new memoir, Up the Down Escalator: Medicine, Motherhood, and Multiple Sclerosis, and talk about her many lessons learned as a doctor turned patient.

Dr. Doggett, a family physician, currently serves as senior medical director for Sagility, a care management company, and recently joined the MS and Neuroimmunology Center at the University of Texas Dell Medical School as a primary care and lifestyle medicine physician.
